Steve Stinson (In Memoriam)

Steve Stinson – December 10, 1961 – July 17, 2014

Steve had a real passion for trees.  He was a member of FFA in high school and spent weekends and summers working on his family’s tree farm.  After high school he worked on tree planting crews and was a faller for many years.  In 1992 he decided he wanted to make a larger impact and went back to school.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science at The Evergreen State College and a graduate degree in Silviculture from the University of Washington.

Steve was the first administrator for the Washington DNR Small Forest Landowner Office.  He made many trips to Washington D.C. representing small forest landowners.  In 2002 he was a founding member of the Family Forest Foundation where he was the Executive Director for 12 years.  He was also a founding member of the Family Forest Legacies, LLC.    Steve co-owned and managed his family’s tree farm, Cowlitz Ridge Tree Farm near Toledo, Washington.
